While early EVs often relied on single-speed gearboxes, modern IDUs are incorporating multi-speed gearboxes to allow the motor to operate within its optimal efficiency range at various driving speeds, particularly improving highway efficiency . AI-driven control algorithms further optimize performance by monitoring operating conditions in real-time and adjusting parameters for maximum efficiency . As a result of these combined efforts, manufacturers like Geely are developing highly integrated intelligent drive units that can reach efficiency levels of up to 92.5% .
